Why does the doe forsake her newborn and the donkeys pant for air like jackals?

Jérémie 14:5–6 (NEG79)

5 Même la biche dans la campagne Met bas et abandonne sa portée, Parce qu'il n'y a point de verdure.

The next two pictures describe the impact that the drought has had on wild animals. The normally caring and protective doe has to leave her newborn fawn to search for food to survive, leaving the young animal to die. The wild donkeys, normally able to withstand the harshest of conditions, desperately sniff the air for any hint of water. The donkey has become a scavenger like a jackal in search of food and water. The lack of water is so severe that the donkey’s eyesight is even failing.1
