1. Jérémie 10:11 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

Why will the gods perish from the earth and under the heavens?

Jérémie 10:11 (NEG79)

11 Vous leur parlerez ainsi: Les dieux qui n'ont point fait les cieux et la terre Disparaîtront de la terre et de dessous les cieux.

This verse (Jeremiah 10:11) is written in Aramaic and may be a saying or proverb that had developed as prophets such as Jeremiah engaged the pagan religions of the nations.1 Affirming what has been said in Jeremiah 10:10, these man-made gods will perish with those who made them because they are not the creators of the heavens and the earth, but are rather created by man.

The question that could be asked is, How can an idol perish if it represents a god that never actually existed? It could either mean that there is a lesser spiritual reality behind these gods that will perish under the Lord’s judgment, or that the Lord will permanently remove the worship of the false gods from his world by pouring out his judgment on their creators and worshippers.2
