The Lord’s people should have no fear of these false gods because they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.
The use of evil and good is a merism, a figure of speech that names two extremes and includes everything in between.1 The point being made is that there is absolutely no reason to fear these gods because they are actually powerless to do anything.
