Despite all the declarations and proclamations of these so-called wise men of Judah, the question still stands, Why is the land laid waste like a wilderness so that no one passes through it?
This is a reference to the judgment that is still to come, that Jeremiah has been proclaiming consistently. The true prophet is again calling into question the wisdom of those who claim to lead the nation in the way they have answered the question by denying it will happen.
