Why will the wise men be put to shame?

Jérémie 8:9 (NEG79)

9 Les sages sont confondus, Ils sont consternés, ils sont pris; Voici, ils ont méprisé la parole de l'Eternel, Et quelle sagesse ont-ils?

The wise men, the men who took on the role of not just copying the Law but of teaching it and being opinion-makers and even advisors to the king, will all be put to shame. The emptiness of their wisdom will be exposed.1 They have rejected the word of the Lord as spoken by his prophet, which means that their understanding of the Law is distorted by an attitude of rebellion towards the Lord. Their wisdom is therefore not true wisdom. These wise men will be dismayed, which speaks of their psychological brokenness when they are exposed, and they will be taken, which probably refers to them being captured by the enemy as the Lord pours out his judgment.2
