The scribes
(Hebrew, soper) were a special class of people who had the specific job of writing the official records of Israel’s history and of making copies of the Torah. They also took on a teaching function to explain and teach what they copied (2 Samuel 8:17; 2 Samuel 20:25; 1 Kings 4:3; 2 Kings 12:10; Isaiah 19:11–12)1 Their lying pens
have made the law of the Lord into a lie.
Clearly, their teaching contradicted or undermined the Law.2
8 Comment pouvez-vous dire: Nous sommes sages, La loi de l'Eternel est avec nous? C'est bien en vain que s'est mise à l'œuvre La plume mensongère des scribes.
