1. Juges 19:22 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

To what extent do the echoes of Genesis 19 now increase?

Judges (Juges) 19:22 (ESV)

22 As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, worthless fellows, surrounded the house, beating on the door. And they said to the old man, the master of the house, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.”

The writer borrows about 25 percent of his words here in Judges 19:22–24 from Genesis 19:4–8, to make the similarity glaring.1 This scene is among the most grotesque in the Bible. Yet Scripture does not shy away from making us at times look sin right in its depraved, hideous face, to learn to see sin as God sees it.
