Who was not ashamed when they committed abomination?

The Lord continues to focus on the religious leaders in Judah, the priests, and prophets (Jeremiah 6:13). Their behaviour is an abomination in the Lord’s eyes because not only had they themselves betrayed the Lord, but they had dealt falsely with the people because they had fed them false words regarding the Lord’s judgment. But these religious leaders were so deeply steeped in this wicked behaviour that they felt no shame. When evil is pursued and practiced regularly and devotedly, it produces eventually a moral blindness in the perpetrator.1 Not surprisingly therefore, the Lord declares that the religious leaders will not escape judgment when it comes. They will fall with everyone else. They will be punished for their wrongdoing, and they will be overthrown. These are not the faithful servants of the Lord who stand alone amongst a rebellious people; they are indeed the Lord’s enemy leading the rebellion against him, and the Lord will defeat his enemy.
