The section ends on a very sobering and ominous note. The foolishness of Judah, the lack of reverence for the Lord, the greed, immorality, and injustice that had seeped deep into every part of society and the delusional belief that it could all be covered over by shallow outward religious activity will eventually be exposed. And when that day of judgment comes what will the nation do? Where will they turn to? How will they escape the Lord’s judgment? The implied answer of course is that there will be nothing they can do when the end comes.
