The emphasis on the destruction of the house is a picture of final judgment to come.1 Jesus affirms that the truths which he has been teaching are not truths merely to be heard, but truths that must be heeded and obeyed. If one does not respond to his teaching with obedience, then one does not belong to Jesus and there will be no safety for that person on the day of judgment.2
