Commentators acknowledge that it is difficult to find a coherent progression of thought in the epilogue as a whole (Revelation 22:6–21). Yet the present section can be understood as pressing home the reliability of what the Lord had revealed to John and thus what a fitting response to this revelation ought to be. Then Revelation 22:6–7 establishes the value of this revelation, with Revelation 22:8–9 telling us John’s incorrect reaction and Revelation 22:10–11 relating how hearers will and should respond.
