Money in and of itself is not sinful or wicked, nor is it renounced by Jesus as such.1 It is a good gift from God, a resource that makes it easier to trade and exchange various goods and services. This characteristic also means that it is very tempting for people with a sinful nature to seek after money. As the apostle Paul will also testify, the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10).
