  2. Explication du texte

How does this passage anticipate the incarnation of Jesus?

The promises of God in this passage never really come to pass in Israel’s history. The nation was often characterized by disobedience and unfaithfulness to the covenant. The failure of the nation anticipates one who will accomplish what the nation could not. That is, perfect obedience to the law of God. Jesus, we might say, is the true Israel, the covenant keeper who was ever obedient to the requirements of God’s law. Through his work, the blessings of the covenant come to those who belong to him by faith. While the people of God do not experience the fullness of these blessings now, they anticipate the return of Christ and the full realization of these covenant promises.
