In Leviticus 26:1, the second commandment is referred to (Exodus 20:4–6). This commandment highlights that obedience to the Word of God requires faithfulness to the Lord as the only God. No other gods are to be tolerated. Ross points out, The making of images and idols was not only a violation of that allegiance but also a reversal of creation, with people forming gods in their own image in order to manipulate and control their own destiny.
