What conditions were considered to be blemishes?

Six specific conditions are listed that would disqualify an animal from being used in the sacrificial system. Four of these defects (blindness, disabled, sores and scabs) echo the conditions which prevented a priest from officiating in the tabernacle (Leviticus 21:18–20). These parallels underscore the close relationship between the offering and the priest within the sacrificial system. Just as physical defects barred the priests (Leviticus 21:17–23) from service in the tabernacle, so any kind of blemish in an animal restricted its use in sacrifice.
