No lay person
(zār) may eat of the holy things of God. The Hebrew term zār normally refers to a stranger, but it may also refer to a person who is not a part of a particular family (Exodus 29:33; Numbers 3:10). In the present context, the term refers to someone who is not a member of the priest’s family.
