The thought of David also fails to grasp God’s right of initiative. He is not dependent upon David or upon what David can do for him. Instead, he proclaims that David’s son will build the house for his name.
Solomon omits something that we find in words of Nathan in 1 Chronicles 17:10: I declare to you that the Lord will build you a house.
So, to state it in its briefest form, God said to David, You will not build me a house, but I will build you a house.
The house that the Lord declares that he will build is David’s genealogical line that leads finally to Jesus Christ, who will sit on David’s throne forever.
19 Seulement, ce ne sera pas toi qui bâtiras la maison; mais ce sera ton fils, sorti de tes entrailles, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom.
