Those who seek to follow Jesus must not think that they will be welcomed by the world. Instead of receiving mercy and material prosperity, there will be hardship. Whilst experiencing injustice however, believers are nevertheless still possessors of the kingdom. 1 Even if they do not visually see
God’s blessing they must nevertheless be confident that they enjoy his favour. They must not think that suffering is an indication of God’s displeasure or their wickedness (the common assumption of the day). 2
