Who saw the crowds?

Matthieu 5:1 (NEG79)

1 Voyant la foule, Jésus monta sur la montagne; et, après qu'il se fut assis, ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui.

Jesus is the one who saw the crowds. He was the subject of Matthew 4:23–25 and so we naturally assume that he is also the subject in view in Matthew 5:1.
