The psalm forms a very cohesive unit, but can be studied in four recognizable parts:

  1. Psalm 8:1–2: the majesty and might of God

  2. Psalm 8:4–5: man’s sense of insignificance

  3. Psalm 8:6–8: the function/role God has destined for man

  4. Psalm 8:9: praise of God
