Christ redeemed God’s people from the curse of the law (judgment and death) by going through the curse in their place.1 When Jesus was crucified, he paid the penalty that believers deserve for their sin (Isaiah 53:4–6).2 As testimony to the fact that he faced God’s judgment and wrath against sin, he was hung on a tree.3 Being nailed to a cross and condemned to shame,4 publicly attested that Jesus Christ was under God’s curse.
