Why does Paul say he received the gospel through a revelation of Jesus Christ when he refers to human transmission in 1 Corinthians 15:3?
In the time before his conversion, when he was persecuting the church, Paul would have been familiar with many historical facts and reports regarding Jesus.1 The central elements of the gospel, however, were hidden to him until he met the risen Lord on the road to Damascus.2 Paul’s meeting with the resurrected Jesus altered, at a stroke, his whole attitude to what he already knew of Jesus up to that point.3
