Also in this verse it shows that in all of this psalm it must be about the one superior to David. This king was from Zion, but he continuously had to deal with all his enemies throughout his life.
One day, a prince will come of whom it can be said that he shall be great to the ends of the earth
(Micah 5:4; compare with Zechariah 9:10).
What it says in Psalm 2:8, Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession,
fits the Lord Jesus only (compare with Psalm 72:8). One day the opposition against the Lord and his anointed One will be broken. All the enemies will then be completely wiped out. We can and may long to see that moment in time.
