Having just explained the powerful affect that love and the longing for love has had on her, the young woman now warns the daughters of Jerusalem (the “virgins” of Song of Solomon 1:3) against the power of love. She becomes their teacher. They have just heard her speak of a beautiful, wonderful relationship filled with sensuality. Her longing for sexual fulfilment with the man she loves has left her weak and lovesick. She warns them not to jump into this type of relationship unwisely.1
