  2. Explication du texte

Why does she ask her beloved where he takes his sheep at noon?

The young woman speaks of her beloved as a shepherd. She has already referred to him as a king in Song of Solomon 1:4, which was an expression of the high regard she has for him. It seems likely though that he is in fact a shepherd.

She asks him where he takes his sheep at noon. Noon was the hottest time of the day, and it would be the time when a shepherd would allow the sheep to rest. It is the perfect time for her to meet up with the young man. The young woman is inviting the young man to an intimate noon-time meeting. Her invite has a playful tone to it with sexual overtones.1
