  2. Explication du texte

Who does the chorus rejoice in and whose love do they extol?

At the end of the young woman’s opening poem, we hear the voice of the chorus for the first time as they respond to her. The chorus at the end of this verse appears to be that of the broader community. The you they refer to is masculine, so they are talking about the young man. They agree with the young woman’s praise of her beloved. The they that is referred to is probably the virgins of Song of Solomon 1:3. The chorus agrees that it is not surprising that all the virgins find the young man excellent.

The love between the young woman and man is celebrated by the larger community because it is a good and pure love.1
