Commentary on 1 Chronicles 5:7–9 (Summary)

1 Chroniques 5:7–9 (NEG79)

7 Frères de Beéra, d'après leurs familles, tels qu'ils sont enregistrés dans les généalogies selon leurs générations: le premier, Jeïel; Zacharie;

These verses describe an earlier period of Reubenite expansion during the reign of David or Solomon (1 Samuel 30:28). Aroer on the Arnon River was built by Gad (Numbers 32:34) and served as a border town between Reuben and Gad (Joshua 13:16). The sites of Nebo and Baal-Meon to the northwest were ascribed to Reuben’s territorial inheritance (Numbers 32:38; Joshua 13:16). According to the Mesha (Moabite) stone, Aroer, Nebo, and Baal-Meon (1 Chronicles 5:8) were recaptured from Ahab by Mesha, king of Moab, around 830 BC (see Numbers 21:27–30; Joshua 13:16–17). Later Hebrew prophets confirm the control of the area by Moab (Isaiah 15:2; Ezekiel 25:9).
