It is likely that Achish had some share in the profit of David’s raids.1 Being told that it came from the lands of Judah, he thought that David had turned against his people and was now fully on the side of the Philistines. Ironically, though Achish claimed that the people of Israel’s hostility to David was on the increase, in reality the opposite was taking place.2 David was winning friends in Judah with his raids (see 1 Samuel 30:26–31).3
