1. 1 Samuel 20:42 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

To what does the peace refer?

1 Samuel 20:42 (NEG79)

42 Et Jonathan dit à David: Va en paix, maintenant que nous avons juré l'un et l'autre, au nom de l'Eternel, en disant: Que l'Eternel soit à jamais entre moi et toi, entre ma postérité et ta postérité!

It is not clear exactly what the peace represents. Possibly it relates to David leaving Saul’s service. The continual hatred of Saul coupled with permission from Jonathan being the Lord’s confirmation to David that he was free to go.1 Alternatively it indicates the relations between Jonathan and David. They had peace with one another.2 Even though they were part of two opposing camps, they did not consider each other enemy but friend. They would meet again briefly once more in the wilderness of Zip (1 Samuel 23:16–18).3
