Why did Saul want to kill David?

1 Samuel 20:31 (NEG79)

Saul thought that he could ignore God’s revelation (1 Samuel 13:13–14) and somehow secure the future of his dynasty.1 Having been persuaded that David was the king-in-waiting ready to replace Saul (1 Samuel 15:28), Saul realizes that he had to take David’s life if he was to ensure his own future heritage.2
