Commentary on Isaiah 23:18 (Summary)

The restoration of Tyre is in stark contrast to the total destruction prophesied against other nations in this series. Everything the city amassed would be used to serve the Lord. That is the reason for the restoration of Tyre. The same idea is found in Psalm 72:10: “May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts!” Some commentators believe this verse indicates that Tyre would become converted and change its ways from chasing prosperity above all else, to serving the Lord with its riches. Whatever the case may be, the people who served the Lord would be blessed richly from Tyre’s gains.
