This verse describes the response of the nations to the Lord’s exposure of Nineveh. Those who see it will shrink away in horror. The two questions asked are a stinging taunt of Nineveh. Who will grieve for you? Where can we find comforters for you? The implied answer to both is that, despite the horror of Nineveh’s exposure, no one will grieve for or comfort Nineveh. So universal had this city’s policy of oppression been that no one could be found willing to grieve for or comfort her.1
7 Tous ceux qui te verront fuiront loin de toi, Et l'on dira: Ninive est détruite! Qui la plaindra? Où te chercherai-je des consolateurs?
