Leviticus 15 concludes the regulations on ceremonial uncleanness (Leviticus 11–15). Moses began unpacking these laws about uncleanness that is associated with various animals and food (Leviticus 11:1–47). He then dealt with the uncleanness of childbirth, which may last up to eighty days (Leviticus 12:1–8). In Leviticus 13:1 – 14:57, Moses dealt with the uncleanness of various skin diseases. To the modern reader it would seem more natural to group the laws of Leviticus 15:1–33 with those of Leviticus 12:1–8, which deals with childbirth. In Leviticus 15, Moses continues to elaborate on the relationship between the holiness of God and ceremonial impurity. This includes chronic infections, seminal discharges, menstruation, and bodily emissions.
