1 Samuel 7:1–17 is in many ways the answer to Hannah’s prayer (see 1 Samuel 2:1–10), or at the very least a partial fulfillment of the reversal that will come with Israel’s anointed king.1 Under the leadership of Samuel, the people of Israel return to the Lord; they acknowledge and confess their sin. Subsequently, they are delivered from the Philistines.
