It is important to note that little children are described here as the opposite of the wise and prudent. If the wise and prudent are men who think that by their wisdom and strength they can save themselves, little children are the people who see that their wisdom and strength will not save them. Therefore, they are open to the revelation of God and his Son (Matthew 11:27). Peter is an example of such a small child who experiences God’s revelation as a gift (Matthew 16:17).
