1. Matthieu 11:25 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

Why does God hide his salvation (“these things”) from the wise and understanding?

Matthieu 11:25 (NEG79)

25 En ce temps-là, Jésus prit la parole, et dit: Je te loue, Père, Seigneur du ciel et de la terre, de ce que tu as caché ces choses aux sages et aux intelligents, et de ce que tu les as révélées aux enfants.

In 1 Corinthians 1:19–21 it becomes clear that God has made foolish the wisdom of the world. The world’s failure to know God through wisdom is no accident…Such a state of affairs reflects God’s wisdom, for if the knowledge of God came through intellectuals, through those who were gifted rhetorically, then those who were scholars and those who were gifted could boast that they were superior to the rest of humanity.1 Then they would boast in their own strength and wisdom and not in God’s work and grace. The policy of God is to show that redemption is by grace, undeserved grace. Whoever receives salvation can only give glory to God.
