In Leviticus 12:1–8 the laws of purification for a new mother are revealed. The theme of God’s holiness continues through this chapter. The physical discharge after childbirth prevented a woman from entering the holy place. Furthermore, she was required to undergo a period of purification followed by ritual sacrifice to restore full participation in the sanctuary.
