The principle of this passage is that God must be glorified by those who come into his presence. One cannot worship in God’s name while living in a manner contrary to his law. Thus, the priests had to make clear decisions about the laws of holiness and teach the people accordingly. In this way they would set an example to the congregation that entering the presence of the Lord meant being set apart from the profane things of the world.
