The people of Israel thought that a king like that of the nations would bring relief from injustice when in reality he would cause the people to cry out to God to be relieved from the injustice of the king.1 If the people wanted to be ruled by such a king, then they would suffer the consequences and the Lord would not spare them from the coming hardship and pain.
