Kierkegaard rightly says:
Thomas SchreinerWhen you read God's Word, you must, so that you actually do come to see yourself in the mirror, remember to say to yourself incessantly, it is I to whom it is speaking; it is I about whom it is speaking. It is so easy for me and for all of us to think of other people while we are listening to the Word. Maybe that is even happening right now [while I am preaching]. Kierkegaard reminds us what this verse is saying, that is, this verse is about me; this word is addressed to me.1
