The woman speaks truth to the devil. She recounts what the Lord did say. She herself had not heard those words from God’s mouth; Adam must have told her, for she had not yet been created at the time the Lord said this (see Genesis 2:17). It is not until Genesis 2:21 that we read that the woman was made out of man by the Lord.
