Commentary on Philippians 2:6 (Summary)

Philippiens 2:6 (NEG79)

6 existant en forme de Dieu, il n'a point regardé son égalité avec Dieu comme une proie à arracher,

In Philippians 2:6–11 Paul writes about Jesus Christ in the form of a song or a poem. It has been known for centuries as an ancient Christian song about Jesus—it was possibly already known in Paul’s days. First, it is said that Jesus could have asserted himself as God. After all, he himself is God. Formulated here like this: Jesus was in the form of God and has equality with God. Jesus made no claim to that (ESV: to be grasped). That is, Jesus did not exploit his divinity for himself. He did not want to take advantage of it for himself.
