Peter had concluded his previous paragraph with a reference to the fact that all who oppress God’s people on account of the faith must one day give account to the righteous Judge for their behavior. In the present paragraph Peter hooks on to the thought of Christ’s approaching return and draws out what sort of behavior befits the Christian brotherhood.
