The Babylonian king would meet a very different end to that of other rulers of his time. In the ancient Near East, burial monuments were very important. Kings were given honourable burials in their own land; remaining unburied was seen as a big disgrace. Because of his evil deeds, the Babylonian king would be cast away from his grave and receive no monument. Instead, his body would remain with the other slain bodies in a mass grave, trampled upon and utterly degraded.
