The first reason was given in Isaiah 13:1–22: Babylon had to fall because of her sinful pride. Isaiah 14:1–32 gives us a second reason. Babylon had to fall so that God could exalt his people. Babylon’s fall was instrumental in God’s hand for the purpose of Israel’s redemption. Babylon had to fall so that Judah could return. This was fulfilled by the Edict of Cyrus, the ruler of the Medes and Persians. God loved his people, and therefore Babylon had to be destroyed.
