Leviticus 8:14 introduces the next phase of the consecration ceremony. Anointing with oil may have consecrated the priests to God, but it could not make atonement. Sacrifices were thus made to prepare the priest for entering the sanctuary. Moses presented a sin offering on the altar. The ceremony follows the procedure as laid out in Leviticus 4:22–35. In this instance, however, the ritual fulfills the prescriptions given in Exodus 29:10–14.
