Beginning at 1 Peter 2:11 Peter had been instructing his readers on the topic of how they were to live as God’s people in a world hostile to God. In so doing Peter had included specifics relevant to slaves (1 Peter 2:18–25), wives (1 Peter 3:1–6), and husbands (1 Peter 3:7). In the present passage Peter sums up that instruction as it relates to all of you,
drawing out the attitudes and conduct that befits persons who have been born again to a living hope (1 Peter 1:3).
