Jesus’ preaching is delivered by teaching with detailed explanations and instructions. In the synagogue teaching
always means opening the Scriptures. Jesus opens the law and the prophets and out of that Thora he proclaims that God’s time has now come. His love for his people is displayed in his teaching. Jesus does not come as a herald who leaves quickly after proclaiming his message, but as a shepherd, who takes the people with him and teaches them to graze in the gospel. That is how he serves the people.1
