Peter’s opening paragraph in the second section of his letter forms an umbrella passage introducing the details of 1 Peter 2:13 – 3:7. Specifically, in 1 Peter 2:13–17 Peter draws out what living “as sojourners and exiles” looks like in relation to governmental authority, in 1 Peter 2:18–25 what it looks like in relation to masters and in 1 Peter 3:1–7 what it looks like in relation to marriage.
