Commentary on Psalm 74:10 (Summary)

The psalmist desperately addresses God directly, asking him how long the Babylonians would continue to dishonour his name. There was no righteousness left in Israel to cause Yahweh to intervene, so he turns to the ultimate appeal, an appeal on the grounds of God’s name. Daniel also prayed for your own sake, O Lord, make your face to shine upon your sanctuary (Daniel 9:17–18). In Ezekiel 36:22–23, Yahweh also told Israel explicitly that he was not acting for their sake, but for the sake of his holy name.
